Missed the 22nd Annual Kyoto Prize Symposium?

Lectures available online at UCSD-TV

After three years of virtual/hybrid Kyoto Prize Symposium (KPS) programming, this year’s week-long celebrations welcomed all three Kyoto Prize laureates and the Inamori Foundation from Japan, March 14 – 17, 2023.

An exciting ‘back-to-normal’ year, KPS was filled with lectures and additional workshops, including a roundtable discussion and a fireside chat with electronics engineer, Prof. Carver Mead. Population biologist, Prof. Bryan Grenfell provided a panel discussion with guest speakers from Yale and Scripps Research. And in partnership with the La Jolla Music Society, KPS and the Inamori Foundation hosted Dr. Zakir Hussain’s ‘Master’s of Percussion' concert at the Balboa Theatre.

With the support of our co-host universities, UC San Diego & Point Loma Nazarene University, the Kyoto Prize Symposium received over 2,500 attendees to its lectures, workshops, and related events including high school students from San Diego and Tijuana.

The March 15 Opening Ceremonies & Scholarship Gala celebrated the Kyoto Prize laureates and announced the 2023-2024 U.S. and Mexico scholarship recipients. Congratulations to these outstanding high school seniors!
